Item Description
1.25" w/4.25" ribbon attached under spring pin. First ribbon reads "Press General Eisenhower Welcome To Boston John E. Kerrigan Mayor." Moderate wear to lettering and well flattened diagonal folds, VF. Second ribbon reads "Welcome General Eisenhower Press." Faint age toning throughout, VF. Buttons feature portrait of Ike in Gen. uniform, first has union back stamp and second "Universal Badge Co." back paper. Both are NM displaying Mint. Ike visited Boston twice in 1946. On Jan. 31 he arrived to cheering crowds for an inspection of Fort Devans and Lovell General Hospital attending a dinner honoring Boston University President Daniel Marsh. On June 5 he attended the Harvard Commencement ceremony. These badges were most likely issued for the Jan. event, the first time Ike vistied the city since the Allied victory in WWII. John Pendergrass Collection.
