Item Description
3.25x4" cardboard mount stamped "Frankenstein" (and marked "Excelsior Illustrating Co." of New York, NY.) holds original release glass slide for the 1931 Universal Monsters film directed by James Whale and starring Boris Karloff. Title slide features large image of Frankenstein's Monster lunging towards photo images of the rest of the cast, which included Dwight Frye, John Boles, Mae Clarke, Edward Van Sloan and Colin Clive (image was also used on half-sheet poster and title card). Lower right has image of Clarke in wedding dress from iconic scene. Cardboard mount has had staples replaced. This is only evident on back as mount's front had staple holes matched up. Back shows staple holes w/some lt. scattered oxidation. Slide has two hairlines, one crossing Frankenstein Monster image w/another at right crossing Colin Clive image and up through title. These are not overly distracting and are only noticeable upon close inspection. Fine overall. Very rare.
