Item Description
18.75x24" linen mounted to 19.5x24.5". Additional headline text "Columbia! Liberty! Justice! Peace!" Published below is a poem in two verses and four letters each signed "Julien, One Who Knows." Text is filled w/anti-Lincoln, pro-slavery sentiments. One telling passage from a section titled "To The President And Other Members Of The Bogus Government Of West Virginia" reads "You And Your Supporters Who Have Taken Up Arms Against Your Own State To Support Old Abe Lincoln In His Abolition War- His Old John Brown Raid Against The South, And His Usurpations And Tyranny, And Schemes Of Death And Hell- Rapine, Plunder, Murder, Piracy, Are No Virginians." Restoration includes margin fills and sealed tears. Losses in field affecting text at bottom right and moderate age toning. VG. A rare survivor and the first we can recall in commerce.
