Item Description
13.5x17" w/"Published By Currier & Ives" at bottom center. At left Jefferson Davis has captured an African American Union soldier that he intends to return to slavery, McClellan offers an olive branch to Davis permitting his action and begs for the South's return to the Union. At right Lincoln holds Davis at the end of a bayonet and demanding unconditional surrender and that emancipated slaves not be returned to slavery. Light brown stain in top right margin that would frame out. Moderate age toning and handling wear. VF. Scarce. A standout among the cartoon prints Currier & Ives issued for the 1864 campaign.
