Item Description
15-1/8x22" artboard features 10 panels of pen and ink original art by "Archie" co-creator Bob Montana. Art is for the Oct. 10, 1948 Sunday page and features Reggie badmouthing Archie, who rides bench during football game. Jughead announces he's applied strong glue to where Reggie usually sits on bench. Of course the coach sits in it and has to be sawed out. To hide the evidence, Jughead stashes the tube of glue in a football helmet, which Archie unknowingly puts on when he's put in the game. After running headlong into an immense center, Archie's helmet promptly gets stuck to his head. The equipment manager attempts to pull it off as does Jughead, who uses third screwdriver after breaking two other, to no avail. Last panel shows Archie still wearing helmet while he dances w/Betty, who comments "Most Men Lose Their Hair At Sixty - Then It Will Come Off, Archie!" as Archie looks around w/red face as dance-goers laugh at him. Archie appears in all but one panel, Jughead appears in first three and second to last. Reggie appears in first panel and Betty appears in last panel. First panel has "Archie" title paste-over which has moderate staining. Seventh panel has been dated and has McClure Newspaper Syndicate paste-over. Pin holes at top corners. Blue pencil date at upper left and lead pencil date at upper right margin. Last panel has some small stains but o/w art displays clean and Exc.
