Item Description
1.5" w/St. Louis Button Co. back paper. When two African American Florida A&M students were arrested for sitting next to a white woman in May 1956 the Tallahassee Bus Boycott began. Local groups quickly organized after the student led boycott of the bus company. A Dec. 30, 1956 report in The Tampa Tribune records that in the summer of '56 "It Was Whites Who Wore Buttons Reading 'I'm Riding The Buses, Are You?', It Now Is Negroes Who Are Wearing These Buttons." Moderate surface wear in reflected light. Exc. displaying Mint. The first we can recall offering in 53 years.
