Item Description
15.5" long pair of Ringo Starr's personally used Gretsch drumsticks, each wooden stick stamped "Gretsch 8 D Don Lamond Model." Drumsticks show expected wear from use and are Fine/VF overall. Drumsticks come w/8x9-7/8" typed letter on NEMS Enterprises Ltd. letterhead dated April 29, 1964. Letter is from Brian Sommerville, The Beatles' Publicity Manager, and reads "Thank You For Your Letter Of 12th April Asking For A Pair Of Ringo Starr's drumsticks. We Do Not Normally Do This Sort Of Thing Because The Demand Could Very Easily Get Out Of Hand. Simply Because I Happen To Be An Ex Lieutenant Commander RN And An Ex Sea Cadet To Boot I Have Made An Exception In This Case And Persuaded Ringo To Let Me Have A Pair Of Used Sticks. I Am Sending Them To Your Herewith And You Have Our Permission To Raffle Them To Raise Funds For Your Unit." The letter goes on to read "With Them Go Best Wishes From The Beatles And Myself To All Those In T.S. Nelson Haden." Letter has been signed in blue ink and folded as mailed. Moderate wear as folded and some scattered aging. Fine. Handwritten letter from winner of the raffle accompanies drumsticks and Sommerville's letter, explaining how her father had purchased many raffle tickets from their local Sea Scouts. These drumsticks were originally sold in a 2007 Christies auction. Wonderful artifacts from The Beatles and the British Invasion.
