Item Description
This is one of the most unusual and interesting World War II Homefront items we have ever offered. 13x18.75x16.5" tall wooden monkey cage, which has been assembled and painted to resemble a house, complete w/wire mesh window, a latched door and heavy leather carrying strap. The roof has repeated "Buy War Bond And Stamps" hand-painted text and door has painted "V" for Victory. The original owner of this cage supposedly utilized it to transport his small monkey about to help w/wartime fundraising efforts (though it has been suggested that the industrious primate proprietor in fact pocketed much of the funds for his own use. Cage shows expected wear/aging from use, w/scattered dings to wood and paint flakes/scratches. Corners of roof shows obvious wear/rounding. VG overall but still structurally sound. A truly unusual and one-of-a-kind Homefront artifact.
