Item Description
8.5x14" offset litho on thin paper. Portrait of Hamer at left w/biography in small text. Flyer advertises participation in the "Freedom Vote" soliciting support for Hamer "And Lyndon Johnson For President, Hubert Humphrey For Vice Pres. Aaron Henry For Senate." Light brown stain, two horizontal margin tears and vertical crease along right edge. Otherwise handling wear including corner crease and edge wear. VG. Hamer was a critical activist helping to found the MFDP and running for Congress on the ticket. At the 1964 DNC Hamer and the MFDP challenged the segregationist Democratic Party of Miss. in an attempt to be seated as the official delegation. Her activism helped register thousands of African American voters. Artifacts relating directly to Hamer are rare and this is only the second example of this flyer known to us.
