Item Description
3-5/8x6.5" first day cover envelope commemorating the "First Successful Orbital Flight By An American - Feb. 20, 1962" has been signed in black felt tip pen by John Glenn (1921-2016), the first American placed into orbit on Feb. 20, 1962, later serving as US Senator from Ohio. FDC bears portrait of Glenn along w/image of Atlas-Mercury rocket lifting off and the Mercury space capsule orbiting Earth. FDC has matching Project Mercury stamp and has been postmarked Cape Canaveral, FL Feb. 20, 1962. Slight rippling at lower left w/.5" corner crease, but o/w VF w/Exc. signature. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
