Item Description
8x10.25". Invitation to the "Grand Inauguration Ball" on "March 5th, 1849" w/engraving of Taylor in military uniform on a mountain overlook. Listed among the "Managers" are Winfield Scott, Alexander Stephens, Robert E. Lee and " Hon. Abraham Lincoln, Ill." Lincoln's Congressional term had ended the prior day but as an ardent supporter of Taylor he remained in Washington for the ceremonies before heading back to IL disillusioned by politics and intent on practicing law. Notations on reverse; edge wear including minor losses & two horizontal folds w/two less than 1" separations along creases at r/l not affecting design. Age toning and scattered spotting throughout. VG. Retains wide margins and will frame nicely.
