Item Description
.5x1.75x2.75". Late 1840s-early 1850s. Hand painted portrait of "Taylor" under glass. Produced in France for export to the USA as a fashion accessory, similar boxes were made for Washington, Lafayette, Jackson and Adams. Gold foil spine w/side edges embossed to simulate gold-leaf page edges of a fine book. Front cover opens revealing a mirror on interior cover. Devoid of the usual paper losses and cracks in glass w/exceptionally clean and bright portrait. Exc. Easily the nicest we've encountered in our 53 years.
