Item Description
13/16" brass shell w/star accented border framing an oval military portrait. Reverse is missing horizontal pin but retains original catch. 99% of the original bold blue accent paint remains. Ferrotype has only light wear and retains a watery sheen in reflected light. Exc. Can be matched w/a Lincoln & McClellan but this is the first Fremont we've encountered in 53 years. Material for Fremont's 1864 campaign is notoriously scarce, DeWitt & Sullivan only listed nine ferro varieties compared w/over 30 for Lincoln.
