Item Description
Two-sided 13.75x22-1/" die-cut painted steel street sign used for March 1, 1962 ticker-tape parade held in New York City to celebrate astronaut John Glenn, who became the first American to orbit the Earth, just nine days earlier aboard his Friendship 7 space craft. To further celebrate, New York's iconic Broadway was renamed "Astronaut Way" for the day, and street signs were replaced w/the new designation. One of these signs is offered here, w/bold "Astronaut Way" name on both sides. Sign shows scattered aging/wear, w/small paint nicks scratches and some trace oxidation to resulting exposed metal. This is more prevalent to one side, which has .75x2.75" area w/paint defect. Fine overall. Historic piece from the early days of manned American space exploration.
