Item Description
4-7/8x7-7/8" printed note on "Office 'Express' Printing Co." letterhead is dated March 16, 1887 and declines invitation to lecture. Note has printed "Sam'l L. Clemens ['Mark Twain']" signature. Handwritten note in blue ink at bottom of sheet in Clemens' hand, further explaining his decline and his busy schedule which includes an upcoming speech in Rochester, NY and his literary commitments. Bottom left has been signed "Samuel L. Clemens." Note was folded into sixths and has remnants from sheet it was previously attached to at top of reverse. Fine overall. Clemens' handwritten note and signature have faded slightly, but all remains legible and signature displays VF. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
