Item Description
First example Hake's has offered, 2.25" without maker and with exceptionally wide collet holding fixed horizontal bar pin. This and following matching button for the White Sox are likely from their All-Chicago World Series face off in 1906. This Chicago Cubs ball club was widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball teams in National League history, finishing with an all-time N.L. best record of 116-36 but, amazingly, lost the World Series to the cross-town rival, Chicago White Sox in six games. The 1906 Cubs were led by four National Baseball Hall of Famers: Frank Chance (Mgr.-1B), Mordecai "Three Fingers" Brown (SP), Joe Tinker (3B) and Johnny Evers (2B). The bear on the right has a deeper than normal vertical scratch from his nose down crossing his left forepaw and ending on the white background opposite his knee. The scratch does not go through the cello into the paper and largely just shows in certain light angles. The button is otherwise exceptionally clean and with high gloss. There are a couple small raised cello bumps that also catch light. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
