Item Description
Original 8.25x24x4.75" deep box has "Chas Addams Doll 'Wednesday'" printed text on side and contains 21" tall stuffed cloth doll w/yarn hair. Produced in 1962 by Aboriginals Ltd. it is believed to have been an FAO Schwartz exclusive. Box has been neatly opened along bottom and is evenly aged. Top of box has some impressions w/slight inward warp, but o/w retains its shape. Some scattered insect damage to box surfaces and packing tape, but box is still Fine overall. Doll was inspired by the artwork of Charles Addams, and was sold two years before premiere of "The Addams Family" ABC-TV show. Starched cloth face w/felt eyes. Face has some glue staining by nose and by/on chin, most likely from glue used to secure yarn hair. Rest of doll remains remarkably clean and VF/Exc. Comes w/original 4x5" Aboriginals tag that has Charles Addams' facsimile signature and opens to reveal green Addams art showing the Addams Family about to dine on a two-headed roast pig. Back of card has text that reads "This Is Wednesday, The Charles Addams Doll. One Look At Her Face, And You May Recall That Rhyme That Began 'Monday's Child Is Fair Of Face, Tuesday's Child Is Full Of Grace, Wednesday's Child Is Full Of Woe..' She Is Romantically Pale Because She Was Brought Up In The Cellar Of A Creaky Old Addams Mansion. Imagine Her Childhood - The Black Magic Lessons... The Sunday Suppers Of Two-Headed Roast Pig... The Pet Octopus. Nice People Adore Wednesday. Nasty People Think She's A Gleefully, Evilly, Shivery Little Companion For All Their Wicked Schemes. Since It's Evident That Wednesday Might Fall Into The Wrong Hands, Do Not Hesitate An Instant. Take Her And Live Woefully Ever After With Wednesday The Charles Addams Doll." Card has some lt. corner tip wear and is VF. We've only offered a few of these dolls over the years, and this example is just the second complete w/tag and the first w/box we've offered in our 53 years. Rare.
