Item Description
Among the rarest and most desirable of the Negro League team name button series, we have seen only one other. 1.25", no maker, button displays crossed bats along with a baseball above team name. The 1945 Homestead Grays were a powerhouse ball club which was in the midst of winning Negro League championships year after year. Loaded with future National Baseball Hall of Famers: Josh Gibson (C), Buck Leonard (1B), Cool Papa Bell (OF), Jud Wilson (3B) and Ray Brown (SP), not to mention other star players such as Vic Harris and Sam Bankhead, the Grays finished the regular season with a league record of 38-18-2. In one of the great upsets in Negro League World Series history, the Cleveland Buckeyes defeated the Homestead Grays club in four straight games. The collet has bit heavier than usual surface oxidation on roughly 50% of its surface but it does not cause any stain. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
