Item Description
1.75", no maker but with union bug back stamp. Satche Paige was widely regarded as the greatest pitcher in the history of the Negro Leagues, starring for the great Pittsburgh Crawfords and Kansas City Monarchs clubs of the 1930s and 1940s. In addition to his brilliance on the mound, Satchel was also noteworthy for his value as a gate attraction, oftentimes bringing in 10X the normal crowd for many of his advertised starts. Joining the Cleveland Indians in 1948 as the oldest rookie in Major League Baseball history, Paige would play a major role down the stretch in leading the Indians to the 1948 World Series. After spending one more season in Cleveland, Paige would play his final three professional baseball seasons with the St. Louis Browns from 1951-53. Satchel was selected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in 1971. Very light all over wear in reflected light. VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
