Item Description
Game No. 530 was designed by Arthur Dritz and produced by American Toy Works in the early 1940s. © Superman Inc. Game consists of 4.5x10" painted wood base w/attached 7.75" tall arms that support 24" long wooden board w/attached die-cut cardboard piece attached to front to give it the appearance of a bridge. This board holds four 3.5" long wooden blocks w/slots containing die-cut cardboard armored cars and tanks (two of each, w/different colors and point values). Front of toy features nearly 8" tall die-cut cardboard piece w/wonderfully illustrated image depicting full body image of Superman, as if he is supporting the bridge. Bottom of this piece has "Superman Action Game" name as well as "No. 530" and game designer/maker names. During play bridge would rock back and forth to expose another tank/car when one was shot off. Game is missing generic black metal gun and two darts, both or which are easily replaced. Some minor surface creases to Superman figure w/heavy crease at corner to cape. Minor color touch-ups along edges of Superman piece, bridge and all tanks/armored cars. Trace oxidation to nail heads used to secure die-cut cardboard to wooden base of bridge. Displays VF overall w/bright color. One of the best designed, rarest and most sought after of all Superman toys. Just the second we've offered in our 53 years. Dan Makara Collection.
