Item Description
1.25", no maker, with reverse metal covered in  thin brown layer of oxidation plus age marks around the back collet but just a very narrow band of stain on the front extreme edge. Vast majority of front is clean and glossy. Alanson Brush first entered automotive history on a brisk fall morning in downtown Detroit when he drove the first Cadillac up and then down the the many steps of the just opened Wayne County Courthouse. Decades later, this became Detroit's Cadillac Square in commemoration of the feat. Brush, as Cadillac's chief engineer, had many patents to his name and designed the first four-cylinder Cadillac engine in 1905. However, he wanted to build a two-cylinder car and financing came his way so that by the end of 1907 the Brush Runabout Co. was in business. His was the first car to have coil springs and shock absorbers on all four wheels. This button naming the "Glidden Tour" seems to promote the Brush Model D which took part in the 2,636 mile tour of that year. Finances changed and by the end of 1909 the Brush car was finished, although Brush continued a long career as a consulting engineer. One example known to us.
