Item Description
Don Post Studios released three different series of masks for the "Planet Of The Apes" franchise.

- The first series "vinyl" masks were released in 1974 and consisted of three "Sculpted Hair" masks, including Cornelius, Dr. Zauis and Gorilla Soldier.
- The first series "Deluxe" masks were also released in 1974 and consisted of four masks "With Hair & Separate Teeth," including Cornelius, Zira, Dr. Zaius and Gorilla Soldier.
As the "Planet Of The Apes" franchise was primarily aimed at boys, significantly less of the Zira masks were produced. Combined w/the fact that Zira masks were only produced for the more expensive "Deluxe" series of mask, it is the rarest mask in the first series.

- The second series of masks were released in 1983 and included Cornelius, Dr. Zauis and Aldo (Gorilla Soldier). Zira was once again excluded from this series. The second series masks featured painted teeth as opposed to the separate teeth featured in the first series "Deluxe" masks.

Offered here is the 1974 issue Don Post first series "Deluxe" Cornelius full head rubber mask from the film "Planet Of The Apes." ©1967 APJAC. Mask has correct glued-in teeth, life-like hair and latex sculpt that looks like the movie character played by actor Roddy McDowell. Latex remains pliable w/no visible cracking. VF.
