Item Description
Large 3.5" dia. No. maker. Same image as previous button but w/o baseball bat. Yellow bkg. variety. Mickey Mantle began his Major League baseball career w/the New York Yankees in 1951 taking over in center field for the living legend, Joe DiMaggio. Widely regarded as the greatest switch-hitter of all-time, Mantle spent his entire 18 year career w/the Yankees, finishing w/a .298 career batting average average along w/536 home runs and 1,509 RBI's. If not for a gruesome knee injury suffered at the very beginning of his career, Mickey's numbers would have been unimaginable. As one of the core Yankees of the 1950s and 1960s, along w/teammates Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford, Mantle led New York to 12 American League pennants and seven World Championships. Mickey was selected as the American League's MVP three times and also finished second in the voting on three other occasions. Mantle was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY in 1974. Trace of age, some silver finish off metal back. Still glossy, VF. Paul Muchinsky Collection Book Example.
