Item Description
11.75x13.25x4.25" deep paper-covered box is covered w/Little Orphan Annie and Sandy images by Annie creator Harold Gray and box contains 12" tall jointed composition Annie doll w/original cloth dress, thigh-high stockings and leather shoes and 6.5" tall composition Sandy doll. Set also includes 3x3.5" Little Orphan Annie And Her Dog Sandy book that was also issued in the Wee Little Book set. Notation on inside of box reads "Sole Distributors And Manufacturers Ralph A. Freundlich, Inc." 1930s. Box shows heavy and obvious moisture staining (more so on lid) but is free of any splits and comes w/original die-cut cardboard insert, which has some scattered tears, largest is 1.75". Box is VG. Annie doll has a few exceedingly minor hairlines to composition face and back of head has three tiny paint bubbles but all paint remains intact. Outfit has evenly aged and doll is o/w Exc. and about as nice as these come. Sandy is Exc. Book has some aging along spine but is o/w Exc. Rare as boxed and in this condition. Comes w/Slack Manufacturing Co. catalog from the period, which includes advertisement (page 173) for this boxed set, noting original price of 85¢.
