Item Description
1-1/2" wide  X 2-1/8" tall two-piece brass shell badge. Use of shells/w photos was greatly diminished in 1896, compared to the years 1880-1892, because of the celluloid button's invention. In addition, the design of this striking badge appears to be created specifically for 1896 as a review of Hake Book III  shells does not yield any design matches. Hanger bar has geometric ornamentation with soldered bar pin. Two thin wire hangers join to loops on top edge of the heart which is comprised of two wreaths with stars and shield below. Each high contrast, glossy real photo is held by three tabs. Tiny wear on Sewell photo largely seen just by magnification. Great luster. A rare Bryan 1896 jugate and special last-hurrah for the brass shell form. NM.
