Item Description

1.25" w/ name of Chicago firm J. Floersheim, Kunstadter & Co. on the back paper. Their name appears above the three typical seen Whitehead & Hoag patent dates so the button appears produced under a licensing agreement with W&H. Depicted is the famous scene of "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow" starting the 1871 Chicago fire and advertising what was one of the largest political parades in US history the "Chicago Day Sound Money Demonstration Oct. 9, 1896" where some 750,000 spectators watched over 100,000 marching for McKinley. About a dozen tiny and faint pinpoint age dots. Glossy and VF. This is the button photographed for the book (page 78) Button Power by Carter/Hake. Comes w/Hake's COA.
