Item Description
1.25" with clean, but hairline creased, St. Louis Button Co. back paper with their design first used in 1905. This button was likely associated with one of the following three events. 1905 is the year Geronimo and five other Native American chiefs participated in President Theodore Roosevelt's inaugural parade in March and came one year after his appearances (as a prisoner of war, under guard) at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, where he sold his photos and autographs. In addition, Geronimo participated in the Miller Brothers famous 101 Ranch Buffalo Hunt spectacle in Oklahoma  in June 1905 for which there are pin-backs, including some real photo buttons of Ponca tribal chiefs. In addition, his autobiography "Geronimo My Life" was published in 1906. Geronimo is seated  with what appears to be a leaded glass tall panel to the right. While the net has many photos of Geronimo, including some with him in this same feathered headdress with sunburst, we have not seen this exact image of him seated. NM. One known to us. Alan Weinberg Collection.
