Item Description
11-5/8x16-1/8" artboard has mixed media original art by comic artist J.L. Blume, known for his cover work on Spanish comic books starring The Phantom. Cover is for the Spanish edition of "El Hombre Enmascarado" #23, which was published in Spain by Valenciana as part of their Del Colosos Comic line in 1981. Artboard has image area measuring 10.25x14-1/8" showing art for "Passion For Death" cover story by Norman Worker, w/The Phantom rescuing chained woman from crocodile in flooded Egyptian tomb. Georges Bess provided the interior art for this comic book. Top margin has handwritten "No. 23" designation. Back has the artist's inkstamp. Art has worn vellum overlay w/tape staining at top (w/corresponding tape staining on back of artboard at top, which does not show on front) which has since come loose. Artboard exhibits corner creasing some faint paint bleed at edges. Lower right has two faint .5" squares of tape staining which blend somewhat. Art remains bright, clean and could easily be matted and framed for an Exc. display. Unique. Cover and contents were exclusive to the Spanish market and saw no US counterpart. Comes w/reading copy of the comic this cover art was created for.
