Item Description
1.25" each. First has W&H back paper. Second has text "Our Hero" w/name below illustrated portrait.  Both have only light surface wear. Exc. Miller was ship's cook 3rd Class on the U.S.S. West Virginia at the time of the attack. He moved his wounded commander to safety and then took over a machine gun to down several Japanese aircraft. Miller, one of the first heroes of WWII was cited for his bravery. He was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross and his actions were widely publicized in the black press. Two years after Pearl Harbor, he was killed in action when the ship U.S.S. Liscome Bay was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the Battle Of Mankin.
