Item Description
7/8" (21mm) brass shell. 1868. Ferrotype has bold text "Grant" above military portrait. Text on shell is iconic quote attributed to Grant from letters written to Sec. of War Edward M. Stanton & Army Chief of Staff Gen. Halleck during the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. The quote is among the most iconic in US Military history and was widely used by Grant during the 1868 election. Very faint surface crazing of emulsion visible only in reflected light. Otherwise only light edge wear to image and shell. Exc. Scarce.
