Item Description
13.5" tall stuffed high quality stuffed felt doll. Made in Spain, by Pedro Gros of Madrid as noted on foil paper tag attached to front of doll. c. 1930s. While an authorized Robber Kitten doll was made by Kruger of America in the 1930s and in Spain by Ernesto Cahn (who had the Disney doll license in the 1930s), this detailed doll was unauthorized. Gros also produced other unlicensed character dolls in the 1930s, including the Big Bad Wolf and Betty Boop. Although unlicensed, doll is a wonderfully designed one. Details include large hat (wire armature around rim) w/feather, painted tin eyes, flared felt gloves and boots. His red jacket has metal accent buttons and leather belt. Doll holds a wooden sword w/wire hand guard. This sword also features a decidedly non-child friendly accessory - the tip of the sword holds a speared rat, complete w/red "blood" showing on the rat's body and sword tip. Foil tag has split at center and has tape repair on back. Just Good. Doll requires a doll stand for upright display. Doll has lt. even aging and rat is missing one ear (on side facing Robber Kitten, not distracting). Front of hat has exposed wire insert. VF overall. Rare and the first we've offered of any dolls from this company in our 54 years.
