Item Description
10.5x13.5" custom frame contains original hand-colored comic book cover color guide for "Flash Comics" #94 (April 1948) that has been matted to 7.25x10.25". Stunning art by Joe Kubert depicts Golden Age Hawkman facing down charging Native American war party, who have a bound but airborne Hawkgirl trailing behind them. This color guide was colored by longtime DC Comics staffer Jack Adler (1917-2011), who worked as both a cover artist and a colorist. Some rippling to sheet as colored, VF. This vibrant color guide is further enhanced by great frame created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing various Golden Age comic panels featuring both Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Of note, Hawkman's secret identity Carter Hall is pictured at right, above large "Hawkman" name. Wonderful display. Ex Jack Adler Collection. One of the earliest cover color guides to come to auction. Extremely rare Golden Age color guide. Comes w/CGC 3.5 VG- copy of the actual comic book the color guide was used to produce.
