Item Description
14x22" thin cardboard poster for boxing match held in Miami Beach, FL on Feb. 25, 1964. Poster is for closed circuit TV viewing at Bakersfield Civic Auditorium in Bakersfield, CA. Murray Poster Printing Co. poster features full body photos of "Champion" Sonny Liston and "Challenger" Cassius Clay in his pre-Ali days. The first of two fights between Liston and Clay for boxing's World Heavyweight Championship, the match was among the most anticipated, watched and controversial fights in the sport's history. Sports Illustrated named this match (during which Clay won the Championship from Liston) as the fourth greatest sports moment of the 20th century. Poster features promotional text including "No Home TV - See It Exclusively In This Area On Closed Circuit Big Screen Theatre TV." Poster has some scattered margin aging/wear including .25" tear at top right and some color rubs to name areas. Some lt. tape staining at top/bottom and left/right center margins on back. Would framed for VF display.
