Item Description
22x22.25" framed display w/an 10.25x15.5" partly printed document signed "James Madison" as President at lower right in black dip pen ink. Document reads in part "Suffer The Schooner Polly Of Marblehead Robert Devereus Master or Commander Of The Burthen Of Eighty Three Tons or Thereabouts Mounted With No Guns Navigated With 8 Men." Dated April 29, 1809. Pair of small holes in field at top left, vertical and horizontal folds w/handling wear from moderate use. Fine. Signature has slightly lightened but remains legible and clean. VF. Nicely scalloped top edge and retaining full original seal at lower left. Professionally framed w/portrait of Madison making for an exceptional display piece. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
