Item Description
26.75x34.5". Produced by "Gaylord Watson" of New York. Hand colored poster featuring a view of the "National Capitol" w/massive waving American Flag extending into the sky above the dome and oval portraits of the candidates w/Columbia seated at center clutching an American shield. Trimming affecting margin text along lower edge and vertical tears along top edge most notably one extending through the portrait of English. These tears in the varnished paper have been stabilized by mounting to a thick fiber board long ago. Given the extremly fragile nature of these varnished campaign charts it is likely that this mounting was instrumental to the prints survival. VG. We have only encountered this design from the 1872 campaign and only once in our 54 years. This is the first example featuring the 1880 Democratic candidates we can recall in commerce. Display material for Hancock is notoriously scarce making this an exceptional opportunity to obtain a truly grand display piece.
