Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 1.25" No maker but w/union back stamp. Spring pin holds 5" ribbon. Button notes their three consecutive AL pennants, 1907-09 and shows a roaring tiger with "Wee-A-Aah" below. This is in reference to Hughie Jennings' infamous cheer. The ribbon has matching tiger w/text noting the most recent pennant win "Champs '09." The 1909 Detroit Tigers ball club were the champions of the American League with a final regular season record of 98-54 under future Hall of Fame manager Jennings. Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford were the offensive stalwarts of a team that ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a hotly contested 1909 World Series, four games to three.
