Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 1.25" No maker but w/union back stamp. Spring pin holds 5" ribbon. Button notes their three consecutive AL pennants, 1907-09 and shows a roaring tiger with "Wee-A-Aah" below. This is in reference to Hughie Jennings' infamous cheer. The ribbon has matching tiger w/text noting the most recent pennant win "Champs '09." The 1909 Detroit Tigers ball club were the champions of the American League with a final regular season record of 98-54 under future Hall of Fame manager Jennings. Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford were the offensive stalwarts of a team that ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a hotly contested 1909 World Series, four games to three. Button has age spotting and surface wear. Ribbon has staining and .5" dia. piece missing from the number "9." VG. Paul Muchinsky  Collection.
