Item Description
15-1/8x22" artboard features pen and ink original art for cover to Unknown Worlds #42, published by American Comics Group in Sept. 1965. Art is by Kurt Schaffenberger (1920-2002), best known for his work on Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family during both the Golden Age and Bronze Age of comics, as well as his work on the title Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane during the 1950s and 1960s. Art features trio of ghostly cowboys pulling Native American warrior from his paint pony as other warriors gallop past in bkg. All promotional text at left has been hand-lettered. Schaffenberger has signed at lower left. Top margin has "Unk. Wor" title abbreviation in red grease pencil and margin has five areas of tape staining w/strip of tape staining on back at top. Bottom margin has some penciled numbers. Artboard is Fine/VF overall. Some scattered lt. soiling above ghost cowboys, but art o/w remains clean and Exc. and would make for great framed display.
