Item Description
15x20.75" artboard features pen and ink original art for one-page story from Black Cat Mystery #48, published by Harvey Feb. 1954. Art is by Bob Powell (1916-1967), a comic artist known for his work during the Golden Age of comics, including Sheena, Queen of the Jungle and Mr. Mystic. Powell also did the pencil art for the iconic bubble gum trading card series Mars Attacks. Story published on page 9 is done in EC Comics style and features eight panels, w/top half showing two different "Terror Tricks" and bottom half showing "Crook-Ed Talk" or criminal lingo. This includes "Third-Degree Examination, Short Story Writer" (forger), "Smoke-Wagon" (referring to heavy caliber non-automatic rifle fire; showing man being shot) and "Mugg Patrol" showing line-up of criminals. Top margin has stamped title and inked title initials w/inked issue/page numbers and some scattered margin penciling. Art remains clean and Exc.
