Item Description
3.5". No maker but w/union back stamp. Features classic illustration of the Brooklyn Bum by Willard Mullin. This same image appears on the cover of the 1953 Dodgers Yearbook. Mullin, a noted sports cartoonist, is the creator of this character, one of the legendary baseball mascots. The 1953 Dodgers won the National League pennant with a fantastic record of 105-49 under manager Chuck Dressen. The offense was led by the future Hall of Fame quartet of Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese and Duke Snider along with future managing great, Dick Williams and Carl Erskine on the mound. Brooklyn would go on to lose the 1953 World Series to the powerful New York Yankees ball club in six games. There are a series of tiny craze lines in the cello on his plume. These blend and are only seen upon magnification. The button otherwise is totally bright and clean with high gloss. Technically VF but displays as NM. A rare and sought after Dodgers button.
