Item Description
10x14-3/8" thick artboard has mixed media original art by prolific and renowned Spanish Marvel Comics cover artist Rafael López Espí. Cover is for Sargento Furia Vol. 2 #28, which reprints Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos Vol. 1 #39 and #112 Feb.1967 and July 1973 and was published in Spain by Mundi in 1974, ©1968 Marvel Comics Group. Artboard has been hand-painted from edge to edge w/art showing Sgt. Fury w/stabbed crocodile and Baron Strucker standing behind him, re-creation of US issue #112 cover. Marvel's cover art was by Dick Ayers. Art has two-piece vellum layout overlay which has extensive handwritten Spanish text (including title at top) and was once taped to back of artboard (it has since come loose). Back of artboard has handwritten "S Furia 28" at top in pencil. Artboard image size is 10x10.5". Art remains bright, clean and Exc. A wonderful example from the era when Espí's art dominated covers of Spanish Marvel comic books, featuring one of Marvel's popular characters and is unsigned by artist. Superb and dynamic cover art. Comes w/reading copy of the Spanish comic this cover art was created for.
