Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 3.5". No maker. Issued by a Brooklyn, NY based charitable organization that raised funds to purchase food, clothing, and toys for needy children, especially during the holiday season. This impressive button features three real photo portraits: Leo Durocher and Charlie Dressen (in Brooklyn Dodgers uniforms) and Freddie Fitzsimmons (in NY Giants uniform). From 1938-45, Durocher was both a player and manager for Brooklyn during his first foray into running a ballclub, which would ultimately become his calling in the Major Leagues. During this same time period, Dressen would spend several seasons as a Dodgers coach before taking over the helm as manager from 1951-53. The third of the trio, Fitzsimmons was a top starting pitcher for Brooklyn during the late-1930's-early 1940's following a long tenure with the New York Giants from 1925-37. One would presume that these three men helped with fund raising events (see following two lots).  There are a trio of hairlne cracks: 1.5" vertical above Fitz, 1" vertical partially on Leo and .5" diagonal across Dressen. Some of this is only seen in reflected light. Button remains totally bright, clean and glossy w/sharp images. Fine but displays much nicer. An obscure baseball rarity. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
