Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 1.75". No maker. Center has "Feds" logo and date of the event, Aug. 22. Rim text is "Lincoln Park Chapter No. 177 R.A.M." The team would become the Whales the next (and last) season. Prior to the 1914 baseball season, an upstart league, formerly designated as a professional minor league, decided to challenge the supremacy of the current "Major Leagues", National and American, by forming a third "Major League" identified as the Federal League. Their inaugural season of 1914 saw the league enlist a total of eight ball clubs with the Indianapolis Hoosiers winning the first ever Federal League pennant with a record of 88-65-4. Most of the league's top stars were raided from National/American League teams, including: Benny Kauff, Cy Falkenberg, Joe Tinker (HOF) and Chief Bender (HOF). The following season, 1915, saw the Federal League add a few more stars: Mordecai "Three-Finger" Brown (HOF), Edd Rousch (HOF), Hal Chase, Eddie Plank (HOF) and Ed Konetchy with the Chicago Whales taking the league title that second season with a record of 86-66-3 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Joe Tinker. Following the 1915 season, the Federal League would cease operations and all of the ballplayers were sold to the National and American Leagues to the highest bidders. Trivial surface wear, pinpoint age dot on rim at 8:00. Totally bright and glossy. Exc. A desirable Fed League item. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
