Item Description
Pair of approx. 14-3/8x20" heavy artboards w/mixed media original art by Fred Lasswell (1916-2001), a cartoonist best known for his decades of work on the Barney Google And Snuffy Smith comic strip. Artboard w/Snuffy Smith shows him w/jug of moonshine and "Mark's A Leetle Varmint But Plumb Purty" dialog balloon. Art has been inscribed "A Kiss From Snuffy & Fred Lasswell - May 12 '49" in black grease pencil. Left margin has 1" area of wear w/indent to margin just below center. Artboard is evenly aged w/bottom margin having 1.25" to 1.75" streak of moisture staining. Jughaid art is inscribed "Fer Leetle Mark (X) Moore Wif Love Fred Lasswell - May 12 '49." Lower right margin has .25x1" area of missing surface paper. Artboard is evenly aged w/bottom margin having 1" to 1.5" streak of moisture staining. Backs show moderate margin wear as framed. Both are VG overall, but could be matted and framed for nice display. Unique pair.
