Item Description
Items in this lot were originally obtained from Danton Burroughs, Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs' grandson. Lot includes items related to Burroughs' 1938 novel Tarzan And The Forbidden City. Burroughs' son John Coleman Burroughs (known for his illustrations of his father's works) frequently used his wife Jane Ralston Burroughs as a model for his projects. Offered here are two 11x14" oversized high gloss original photos showing Ralston Burroughs posed alongside her brother-in-law Hulbert Burroughs, modeling the cover pose painted by John Coleman Burroughs for the dust jacket for Tarzan And The Forbidden City. Photos were taken by John Coleman Burroughs and feature two slightly different contrasts. Both photos show scattered handling wear and one has 2" J-shaped tear at center right w/color touch-up and tape repair on back. Photos are VG to Fine overall. Comes w/first edition of the book itself, published by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. Book has laminated inner jacket flap attached to inside front cover. Spine is faded but o/w book is clean and Fine/VF. Lot also includes dustjacket for the book, featuring John Coleman Burroughs' art. Dustjacket has been folded as designed and shows just lt. wear. VF/Exc. Interesting insight into the design process of this 1930s Tarzan cover art. One-of-a-kind lot for Tarzan collectors.
