Item Description
1.75" w/St. Louis Button Co. imprint on hollow tin back w/fixed vertical pin. Oval portraits of each leader below respective flags. Cello separation between 6 and 7 o'clock that remains tight and another tiny 1/8" at 3 o'clock. Extremely Fine. Remains an attractive display example w/pronounced gold background and impressive size. This event was the first meeting between the two countries presidents and the first time a sitting American president visited Mexico. The two countries agreed that the contested Chamizal strip, which connected El Paso, TX to Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, would be considered a neutral zone during the historic meeting. Diaz hoped the event would aid his attempt for a seventh term and Taft aimed to protect American investment in Mexico. See additional lots  from the historic meeting #182 and #184-187. John Pendergrass Collection.
