Item Description
9" long w/Colorado Badge & Novelty Co. label on reverse. "Delegate" hanger has a loop at bottom center suspending a 1.25" Mother Jones portrait button. Cream ribbon below portrait button reads "Behold The Mother Of Our Union, With Her Hoary Head Erect, Still Pleading With Her Children The Unions To Protect." Backing ribbon reads "10th Annual Convention Dist. 15 UMWA Louisville, Colo. Feb. 18th, 1913." Cream ribbon originally suspended a medallion no longer present. Now an added chain suspends a cello UMWA badge w/wear from heavy use and moisture stains. Backing ribbon has moisture marks and moderate wear to gold text. Mother Jones button remains extremely clean w/light wear in reflected light and retains original CO Badge & Nov. Co. back paper. Exc.  Badge overall is VG. Only the second we've seen in our 54 years.

The Convention was held in the lead up to strikes that began in the summer of 1913 and lasted into 1914. Mother Jones was a fixture during this time leading marches and being arrested in Trinidad Jan 1914. The events also included the Ludlow Massacre and the 10-Day War that saw fighting between CO National Guard troops and strikers in Louisville, CO where this badge was issued.
