Item Description
1.5" w/Parisian Novelty Co. Chicago, Ill. back paper. Real photo portrait of the poet, songwriter and IWW organizer encircled by "Joe Hillstrom He Died A Martyr." Moderate surface wear in reflected light. Exc. Superb construction and only the third we've encountered in 54 years. Hill was executed by firing squad in Salt Lake City, UT after being convicted of killing a grocery store owner and his son in a controversial trial. Produced for Hill's Chicago funeral on Nov. 25, 1915. Hill's message to IWW leader Big Bill Haywood before his execution read "Goodbye Bill. I Die Like A True Blue Rebel. Don't Waste Any Time In Mourning. Organize." Material related to Hill is notably rare and this button is among the most outstanding labor artifacts we've encountered.
