Item Description
New Haven Watch Co. made four varieties of this pocket watch 1934-1935. Three varieties feature small character portraits at edges, one w/fleshtone faces, one w/orange faces as seen in the 1934 example offered here. Another variety features more crude images of Popeye and smaller portraits while the fourth variety omitted the smaller character portraits altogether. .75x2-5/8x3-1/8" thin cardboard box features text-only lid that reads "Popeye Watch - Copyright, King Features Syndicate, Inc." Box is complete w/die-cut insert that reads "Popeye Watch - Nickel Finish." Box remains tight and lid shows just lt. corner tip wear. High grade, VF/Exc. example. Insert is NM. 1-7/8" dia. nickel-finished pocket watch has detailed dial picturing many characters around sides including Ham Gravy, Wimpy, Professor Wottasnozzle and more. As mentioned above, these are the variety w/orange faces. Images alternate with designs of triangles which surround the numerals. Popeye's die-cut arms w/bold anchor designs and hands w/pointing fingers tell the time while below his spread legs is a revolving second wheel that has color copy replacement. All else is original. Case shows scattered wear w/trace of brass metal showing through at spots. Dial has some scattered lt. wear but crystal remains clean. Running. Fine overall. Wonderful design with choice graphics. Rare box.
