Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 2.5". Philadelphia Badge Co. on rim curl. For Sunday Aug. 24th game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, AL. This special day was organized in appreciation of player/manager, Winfield Welch, starting left fielder for the Birmingham ball club which finished in third place in the Negro American League that season with a record of 14-10. Their opponents on this day, the St. Louis Stars, split their 1941 season between there and New Orleans, finishing in second place in the league standings at 20-12. Metal back has much silver luster off and trace of oxidation on rim. Front surface has many tiny bumps noticeable to the touch and moderate scattered age spotting and wear.
