Item Description
Original 2.75x4.5" glossy photo w/ornate border design. Features all-time Negro League pitching/hitting great, "Bullet Joe" Rogan along with a young lady identified as Ruth standing in front of the Grand Central Hotel building and drug store, in St. Louis, MO taken on May 15, 1929 as handwritten on the loose scrapbook page section that accompanies it. Rogan was the mainstay of a Kansas City Monarchs ball club that dominated Negro League baseball for much of the 1920s. Rogan also started for the world famous All-Nations team which was comprised of players representing numerous countries during the 1910s. Over the years, Rogan compiled batting averages of .351, .416, .412, .366, .314, .330, .353, .341 and .311. On the mound, he registered seasons of 13-6, 12-8, 16-5, 15-2, 12-4, 15-6 and 9-3. Inducted in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. Photo has slightly uneven margin. Image of Rogan remains distinct, photo remains glossy and clean. Fine. A unique Negro League item.
